19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to create a third set.

He saved four early opportunities in a close final set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
